Do your children go to a Salford primary school? Maybe you teach, work or help out at a Salford primary school? Or maybe you go to a Salford primary school?
Mr Alzheimer’s needs some help from you. The Mr Alzheimer’s Goes to School Campaign aims to start conversations about dementia, in the school, at home and in the wider community.
To do this, over the next couple of years each Salford primary school will be provided with a campaign bag for children to take home. It includes a Mr Alzheimer’s teddy (made by volunteers in Salford), introduction post cards for family and friends, puzzles and games, Mr Alzheimer’s Goes to Toyland story and a bag (you will get to make your own diary to go in to the bag!). The Mr Alzheimer’s Goes to Toyland has been written for younger people and follows the adventures of Mr Alzheimer’s as he tries to buy his granddaughter a birthday present. To watch the film please visit Age UK, Salford (this link will take you to their website)
The Campaign is run by Salford Inspire, an Age UK Salford project and has been co-produced over the last two years with the School Councils from St John’s and St Andrew’s CE Primary Schools.
Year one of the Campaign has been funded by Dementia United and Salford CVS.
Joining the Campaign is simple! Once you have contacted Salford Inspire they will invite you and some members of your School Council to a short and fun ‘Introducing Mr Alzheimer’s’ session where you will find out about the Campaign, become Dementia Friends and pick up your Campaign bag. You can make the Campaign as big or as small as you like!
Read about the Mr Alzheimer’s goes to Toyland Book Launch held at Buile Hill Park Conference Centre in May 2019.
