Music & Memory in Tameside, Greater Manchester, funded by Dementia United's Big Brain Health Fund. A friendly group for those that love to sing.
Marion Coleman runs two music groups in Tameside, thanks to the Dementia United Big Brain Health Fund. The first is a musical memories group, in conjunction with Tameside Music Centre and the second one is a social music group run in the Together Centre.
Marion previously worked for Playlist for Life which helps people living with dementia discover the unique soundtrack to their lives. She is a keen supporter of National Playlist Day 2024 which is taking place on 20th September and encourages everyone to uncover the soundtrack to their lives.
Marion’s Tameside music groups are a testimony to the power of music and the difference it can make to the lives of people living with dementia.
Music really helps to fire off those neurons and get those pathways working…it’s just such a joy and a relaxation. Vocal Animateur, Caroline Ratcliffe
The participants really value their music, memories and wellbeing sessions.
My mum is not very vocal…but she comes alive when she hears music.
I don’t know what I would’ve done without these sessions, you can relax here…the music just brings it out of them.
Marion also runs a Dementia Disco from 4-6pm on the last Sunday in the month at Newton Ward Conservative Club, 151 Ashton Rd, Hyde SK14 4BH. Guests can choose music from their own eras, from rock n roll to disco and anything in between.
