NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care’s Dementia and Brain Health Delivery Plan for 2023 to 2025.

The purpose of this plan is to work in co-production with partners across Greater Manchester to deliver meaningful reform and quality improvement. We have made dementia a priority through working in partnership with people affected by dementia, across all ten boroughs in Greater Manchester. Read more

Brain health and wellbeing

Promote brain health and help prevent avoidable cases of dementia, supporting wellbeing and independence

Research shows that it may be possible to reduce your risk of developing dementia by making relatively small changes to your lifestyle and habits which improve the health of your brain, particularly from middle age onwards. On our brain health and wellbeing page you can find out more about:

Education and training

Design, develop and facilitate education and training across all sectors

  • We want to ensure everyone in Greater Manchester has an awareness of dementia and that practitioners working directly with people living with dementia are appropriately trained.  This project focuses on promoting the training available for all affected by dementia, advocating for mandatory dementia awareness training, and sharing training resources across organisations. It also includes work to support person centred responses to distressed behaviours and complex needs. Read more

Research and innovation

Increase access to benefits of dementia research through awareness, involvement and participation

Dementia United are committed to increasing research involvement, awareness, and participation, particularly amongst underrepresented populations.  The ultimate goal of research is to find a cure. However, research is also crucial in finding ways to help people live well with dementia and remain independent for as long as possible. Read more

System quality improvement

Improving connections, quality of care and experience for everyone affected by dementia.

Our current areas of work include:

  • Active inclusion of marginalised communities
  • Dementia wellbeing plan digitisation.
  • Improving quality and experience of being diagnosed with dementia.
  • Improving detection, treatment and management of delirium.
  • Young onset and rarer forms.
  • Embedding quality standards across the dementia care pathway.
  • Supporting the provision of good end of life care.

Each locality of Greater Manchester has a directory of services that should include services that provide support for people affected by dementia in that area. Read more

Greater Manchester partnerships supporting the LGBTQI+ community

The aim of the project was to scope out opportunities for people affected by dementia, from the LGBTQI+ community, to be able to share their experiences. These experiences and feedback would then inform and drive improvements in the quality of services, information, and support available. Find out more
