In collaboration with clinicians across Greater Manchester, our business intelligence colleagues and members of our Dementia Carers Expert Reference Group we’ve developed a dashboard which shows dementia diagnosis rates across all ten boroughs.
The dashboard also reflects lived experience, quality of care and quality of life for people affected by dementia.
Pre-pandemic the diagnosis rate was 76% 2018/2019).
The main driver for a dementia diagnosis is that it facilitates access to care and support that enables people to manage and live well with a complex condition. Driving up diagnostic rates without investing in post-diagnosis support results in people with dementia feeling unsupported after their diagnosis. Alzheimer’s Society
We are proud to share that all ten Greater Manchester localities have now surpassed the national dementia diagnosis rate target of 66.7%, with a current Greater Manchester average of 74% for 2024/2025.
This achievement reflects our shared commitment to reducing variation across the region and ensuring timely diagnosis for everyone. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial to helping people live well at home for longer, maintain their independence, and avoid unnecessary hospital or care home admissions.
We will continue working with partners across health and care services to sustain and build on this progress, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Presenting data in a simple format helps us all to measure our performance and see if programmes and initiatives across Greater Manchester are resulting in improvements to a range of metrics including eg diagnosis rates, referrals, care plans, assessments and medication reviews.
