Dementia United’s World Delirium Awareness Day 2025 in-person health and care staff event was a huge success.

Over 70 people attended the event from across a wide variety of health and care settings including voluntary sector, care homes, hospices, community teams, primary care as well as hospitals and mental health providers.

The aim of World Delirium Awareness Day, held on March 12th 2025, was to raise awareness and highlight this often under-recognised but potentially preventable condition. We showcased best practice from across Greater Manchester and internationally and facilitated a quality improvement focused workshop with all delegates.

Amazing, I have learnt so much.. such passionate and knowledgeable professionals, wish I could bottle it all and share it.

Over 70 people attended the event from across a wide variety of health and care settings including voluntary sector, care homes, hospices, community teams, primary care as well as hospitals and mental health providers. Such was the demand for the event, that we had a waiting list with a further 30 people who expressed an interest in attending and being linked in with future events.

This event, had a wide range of speakers covering the following topics:

  • What delirium is and how to manage it
  • Stories from people with lived experience
  • NHS Greater Manchester’s system taking delirium forward as a priority area
  • Good practice examples from Greater Manchester localities with Stockport showcasing their successful community pathway and toolkit implementation
  • Unique opportunity to hear from international colleagues from Singapore
  • Workshops exploring how we improve delirium assessment and management in the hospital and community

 The key takeaways from the event, according to attendees:

“ To have delirium as regular discussion item in meetings with colleagues “

“To share what I have learned with my care village and across the organisation, striving to enhance the residents experience. I pledge to always keep the resident at the heart of our decision-making.”

“ To discuss integrating screening for delirium within our service”

96% of delegates were very satisfied with the facilitators, speakers and topic relevance; 88.5% were very satisfied and a further 11.5% were somewhat satisfied with the overall content. Everyone that completed the evaluation said their expectations were either met or the event was beyond their expectations. The overall feedback was about;

“The interactive nature of the day, with contributions from various organisations and across different trusts.”

“Great event , good to talk to other professionals, loved the lived experience talks really emotional and inspiring to raise awareness within my role”
